Second Skin
Natural earth on unstretched canvas, 70 × 120 × 20 cm
2026
This project explores the boundary between the body and its environment, transforming the object's surface into an archive of conditions: pressure, humidity, and prolonged contact. In the context of slowing down, the canvas acts as a "temporary layer," capturing moments of interaction that typically escape perception.
The form of the object alludes to the logic of a wearable item—something that can be tried on, taken off, or left hanging. The use of natural earth grants the work weight and texture, establishing a literal connection to a place (topos). Here, earth is not merely a material but a medium of memory, absorbing the rhythm of the surrounding environment.
The suspended form heightens the sensation of a "shed skin"—an artifact of past presence. The work invites the viewer to pause and decipher the layers of time frozen in soil and fabric, turning contemplation into an experience of bodily empathy with a material trace.
This piece is conceived as part of a larger project titled "Home."
